How many Jello shots does one box of Jello make?

This recipe makes 12 2-ounce Jello shots. You can make more or less by using bigger or smaller shot glasses.

What type of cups should I use for Jello shots?

I recommend using 2-ounce plastic condiment cups. They’re easy to portion, and they often come with lids for easy transport and storage.

Does the alcohol cook off in Jello shots?

No, the alcohol does not cook off in Jello shots. The boiling water is not enough sustained heat to cook off the alcohol.

Can I make peach Jello shots with different alcohol?

Yes, you can. Use 1 cup of peach vodka, peach schnapps, or peach rum.

Why aren’t my Jello shots setting?

If the ratio of alcohol to water is off, the Jello might not set properly, leading to runny shots. Be sure to follow the recipe exactly and do not increase the amount of alcohol. I promise these shots are plenty strong!

Use your favorite type of peach whiskey to give these shots a special touch. You can make them with ease and have a bunch of shots ready to enjoy at your next party.

Make Ahead Instructions

Make peach Jello shots up to 5 days in advance. Store covered in the refrigerator without peach rings. Add garnishes just before serving.

Storage Instructions

Store Jello shots covered in the refrigerator for up to 1 week. I do not recommend freezing Jello shots, as freezing can ruin the texture. However, Jello shots are technically safe to freeze for up to 4 months. I recommend leaving the peach ring garnish off until you’re ready to serve.

Jello Shot Variations

There are tons of ways to customize these shots. Try these:

  • Dreamsicle: Use orange Jello-O and whipped cream vodka. Garnish with gummy orange slices.
  • Piña Coolada: Use pineapple Jello-O and coconut rum. Garnish with gummy pineapple rings.
  • Cosmopolitan: Use cranberry juice with a splash of lime in place of the water and cranberry Jell-O and vodka. Garnish with candied cranberries or gummy lime slices.
  • Lemon Drop:Use lemon Jell-O and lemon vodka. Garnish with gummy lemon slices or lemon drop candies.
  • Blue Hawaiian:Use berry blue Jell-O, a mix of ¾ cup coconut rum and ¼ cup blue curacao, and pineapple juice in place of half of the boiling water. Garnish with gummy sharks.
  • Tequila Sunrise:Use Orange Jell-O and a mix of ¾ cup tequila, a splash triple sec, and a splash of grenadine. Garnish with maraschino cherries.
  • Margarita:Use lime Jell-O, a mix of ¾ cup tequila and ¼ cup triple sec, and a splash of lime juice with the boiling water. Garnish with gummy lime slices.

FAQs

Is 1 cup of vodka too much for jello shots? ›

Jello shots won't set properly if you add too much alcohol. Generally, a basic batch of jello shots is made with one cup of juice or water, one packet of gelatin, 1/2 cup of cold water and 1/2 cup of alcohol. However, jello shots can be made with as much as 2/3 cup alcohol without changing their texture.

What is the ratio of alcohol to water in jello shots? ›

In a small bowl, combine 1/2 cup cold water and 1/2 cup vodka, or other liquor. Place the mixture in the refrigerator to reach a consistent temperature. Place 1 (3-ounce) package any flavor gelatin in a separate bowl or glass measuring cup, and slowly add the remaining 1 cup boiling water.

Will jello shots get you drunk? ›

The sugar in these mixes helps to mask the taste of alcohol, and when you tie alcohol up in solid form, it doesn't dissolve as much on your tongue, which means you can't taste the alcohol as much. That means that you can easily get a little too drunk without realizing it.

What is the best alcohol to use for Jell-O shots? ›

Vodka and white rum are both great options for your alcohol, although other spirits, like gin, whiskey, tequila and brandy all work.

Should alcohol be cold when making Jell-O shots? ›

If you are in a hurry, you can set your jello faster by having your liquids as cold as possible when starting to make your shots. You can have your alcohol in the freezer to get it cold, and/or you can add some ice cubes in with your cold water and remove the ice that's left after 2-3 minutes.

Can you put lids on jello shots before they set? ›

Pour the jello mixture into the plastic cups, filling about 3/4 full so there is room for the lid to be put on later. Refrigerate the shots for 2-3 hours or until set. Put a lid on each cup and store in the fridge until ready to serve.

Does jello need to cool before adding vodka? ›

If you add the alcohol to the boiling hot Jello and water mixture, all the alcohol will just evaporate because alcohol has a lower boiling point than water. Be sure to allow the Jello/Knox/water mixture to cool to about room temperature before adding the alcohol.

Can you put jello shots in the freezer to set faster? ›

You do not want to freeze jello shots. You can speed up the set time by placing it in the freezer, but you'll have to keep checking them to make sure they don't freeze. Jello shots can last in the fridge for up to three to five days, so you can still make them in advance of the party without having to freeze them!

Do jello shots get stronger the longer they sit? ›

Jello Shots, like life, are all about balance. That said, if you want a strong one, it is possible if you leave it in the fridge long enough. In a Supercall experiment, we found that the strongest Jello Shot that will set is three-to-one ratio of 80-proof alcohol to water, and it took a full day to become mostly solid.

Do you spray cups for Jello shots? ›

Pour gelatin mixture into paper or plastic shot cups* and chill in refrigerator until set, 1 hour or more. *Reviewers suggest coating the shot cups lightly with cooking spray so the shots slide right out. Give each mini cup a quick wipe with a paper towel to remove excess and spread oil evenly.

How many shots make a cup? ›

How Many Shots in a Cup? There are 8 shots in a cup. 8 fl. oz. is a standard volume cup, and a standard shot varies between 1 and 1 1/2 fl.

Can you put too much vodka in jello shots? ›

So, jello shots, huh? Here's my two cents: Don't go overboard with the booze! You want that wobbly goodness to taste like a party, not a distillery. Start with a 1:1 ratio of alcohol to water (or juice if you're feeling fancy).

How to make jello shots come out easier? ›

Simply spritz cooking spray around the interior of your jello shot containers, and use a paper towel to spread it around so that all that's left is a light coating. To eat, use your finger to scoop out the jello shot and it should release from the cup much easier.

How do you get jello shots to slide out? ›

Place shot glasses on a baking tray for easy transport. Pour gelatin mixture into paper or plastic shot cups* and chill in refrigerator until set, 1 hour or more. *Reviewers suggest coating the shot cups lightly with cooking spray so the shots slide right out.

Should you turn jello shots upside down? ›

That's where a new trick comes into play that promises to make downing those Jell-O shots at the party so much easier to consume: turn the shot upside down to prevent the Jell-O from sticking to the cup.

How to stop jello shots from sticking? ›

That wisdom starts with making sure the Jell-O doesn't stick to the sides of the plastic cup, and all you need is a little vegetable oil or non-stick cooking spray to demonstrate your prowess.
