The employee said management stated a lack of revenue was the reason for their store's closure. “Employees who work at the discontinued Lume stores will be provided with severance pay and they will have the opportunity to apply for positions at other Lume stores in Michigan,” the company said.

A proposed class action lawsuit filed in May of 2023 claims that “Lume's statements are deceptive because the sample sizes in the study were 'neither large nor diverse enough' to verify the claims of long-lasting odor control”.

The lawsuits began in 2021 when Lume, Higher Love, Nirvana and others sued the city following the choice to award only two marijuana permits to Rize and the Fire Station. The ordinance was changed this summer to remove the cap and the two original dispensaries are fighting to change it back.

Lume has opened several franchises since and is seeking to expand its reach even further. There are several Lume locations, and its headquarters in Naples, Florida.
