What's so Special About these Chicken Sliders

These chicken sliders are legit the perfect meal.

They are packed with crunchy fried chicken tenders that are tossed with my 3 ingredient honey mustard recipe. Spicy pepper jack cheese is melted onto King's Hawaiian pretzel slider rolls and baked with lots of crunchy smoky bacon. For freshness, creamy avocado and cherry tomatoes come together with a bit of flaky salt to make the whole thing pop off.

It's the perfect combination of creamy, crispy, sweet and savory and I know they'll become one of your favorite slider recipes of all time. Plus, if honey mustard isn't your thing, try using another creamy sauce of your choice! Want suggestions? I've got plenty in the ingredients & substitutions section below.

To be honest, all of my slider recipes using hawaiian sweet rolls are a popular choice... especially for football season. But this one hits different! My family loves them no matter what time of year it is. They're the perfect party food and the perfect snacking sandwich especially when served with some potato chips and some crisp pickles.

So let's get some slider buns and get to it!

Ingredients & Substitutions

  • King's Hawaiian Pretzel Slider Buns:These chicken sliders are delicious no matter what kind of slider bun (or regular bun!) you use. I love their Pretzel roll sliders just as much as the original sweet Hawaiian rolls so def switch it up if you want to.
  • Pepper Jack Cheese:Feel free to swap pepper jack cheese for another creamy cheese of your choice. Try mozzarella cheese, cheddar cheese, provolone cheese, swiss cheese, or even gouda cheese.
  • Bacon:If you don't do pork, you can leave the bacon off. It'll still be delicious!
  • Fried Chicken Tenders:I love buying the breaded chicken tenders at the Publix hot bar. But I know not everyone wants to eat fried chicken all the time. If you want something healthier, you can either use a cooked rotisserie chicken for a shortcut. Or you can do it yourself and put a couple of skinless chicken breasts or chicken thighs into the instant pot to make shredded chicken. Or brown up some ground chicken in a large skillet for an easy meal sloppy joe style.
  • Honey Mustard:If you don't like honey dijon mustard, you could swap it for another sauce of your choice. Try my homemade southern bbq sauce, buffalo sauce, hot sauce or another creamy sauce of your choice. Honestly the best option is whatever sounds best to you!
  • Avocado:I love adding avocado to these honey mustard chicken and cheese sliders. But if avocado isn't your thing, skip it.
  • Cherry Tomatoes:If tomatoes aren't your thing. Just leave them out. But if you still want them to have some fresh veggies, try adding pickled red onion, thinly sliced green onions, fresh spinach or shredded lettuce.
  • Flaky Salt:If you want a lot of flavor on your fresh ingredients, try adding a sprinkle of lemon juice, garlic powder, onion powder, red pepper flakes or even ranch seasoning.
  • Optional Add-ins:If you're not using pretzel sliders, you might want to brush an olive oil or melted butter sauce on the top half of the rolls for more flavor. To make this seasoned butter sauce even more delicious, try adding some italian seasoning, parmesan cheese, black pepper or garlic powder to your butter mixture. Then use a pastry brush to brush each one of the individual sliders and bake as directed.

How to make it

Making these chicken sliders is so easy! For the best results, follow the detailed instructions below or skip to the simplified version in the recipe card below.

Make Honey Mustard:If you're making my homemade honey mustard, grab a small bowl and mix together honey, mayo and dijon mustard. The first picture shows it made with grainy dijon mustard. The second is with smooth dijon mustard. They're both delicious!
