A great free, legal option for manga is Shonen Jump. It offers the latest chapters from popular series like One Piece and My Hero Academia for free, with a catch. You can only read a limited number of chapters for free at a time, but it’s a fantastic way to discover new manga and try out series before buying them.

Best Legal Online Manga Sites
Shonen Jump
Cost: Free, $1.99 per month, or pay per issue
Shonen Jump is by far the best legal online manga site that I have come across. If you’re a manga fan then you have definitely heard of Weekly Shonen Jump. It is one of the first weekly manga magazines and it has gained a huge following since it was first published.
As technology took the world by storm, the magazine came up with a digital version- Shonen Jump. The site is home to some of the most popular classics that are not easy to find. You can find all sorts of hidden gems here.
Subscriptions are pretty pocket friendly too! You can get a monthly subscription at $1.99 and will have access to over 10,000 chapters from various titles.
If you’re unsure about getting a subscription, you can always make use of the free trial period.

BookWalker
Cost: Free or pay per issue
BookWalker is run by Kadokawa and houses publications by popular publishers like Viz, Yen, and Kodansha.
BookWalker is like the Kindle store for manga readers. With its wide range of manga collections to choose from, I have never been disappointed with the site.
Most content needs to be paid for but it was a happy surprise for me when I saw that the site has a lot of free manga as well.
The site is super easy to navigate and is very user friendly. They even have audiobooks available. The site often has special offers and sales going on that make purchasing pock friendly.
Manga Plus by Shueisha
Cost: Free
I’m not going to lie but when I first came across Manga Plus, I wasn’t entirely sure if it was a legal site or not. It was free and how often do you come across good stuff for free?
Then I went through all of its terms and policies and did some background research. Manga Plus is completely official!
On the site, you can read comics and manga from popular magazines like Japan’s Weekly Shonen Jump.
However, since the site is operated by Shueisha (a Japanese publisher), the content is limited to work published by them.

ComiXology
Cost: $5.99 per month or pay per issue
ComiXology is a cloud based digital manga platform and is now a subsidiary of Amazon.com.
Since it was first started in 2007, it has become one of the most popular sites for online manga. It is also one of the largest sites for manga.
What I loved about this site is how easy it is to navigate the site. Besides that, I was blown away by how big the collection of comics and manga is on this site.
The site has American comic books as well. For a subscription of $5.99 per month, you can access over 25,000 different comic books on this site.
It’s a little more expensive than other sites o our list but it is one of the best! Recently, Amazon integrated ComXology with Kindle so you can now read manga on your Kindle as well.
Crunchyroll Manga
Cost: $7.99 per month
Crunchyroll is another popular online manga site that launched in the USA in 2006.
All content is available in English. The site has three different subscription plans for you to choose from. They are Mega Fan for $9.99 per month or $79.99 per year and Fan for $7.99 per month. They all come with a 14 day free trial period.
On Crunchyroll, you can stream anime and read manga an hour after they are released in Japan. They also have exclusive store discounts that users can enjoy!
VIZ
Cost: Free, about $2.99 per month or pay per issue
Viz Media is the largest American manga publisher and anime distributor. Shonen Jump is a part of this site.
The site has a wide range of manga that users can choose from. Some are free but you will need to pay per issue for some titles. But I have come to the conclusion that getting a monthly subscription is the best way to enjoy all that the site has to offer.
The site also gives free previews for new releases. You can download books and access them offline. The site also has a personalized library that will let you read at your own pace.
Manga Planet Library
Cost: $1.99 per week, $6.99 per month
Manga Planet doesn’t have a phone app just yet, but it is still an excellent place to read manga legally.
It is pretty recent when compared to the other sites but it has a large collection of translated titles.
It has subscription plans for a week and a month costing $1.99 and $6.99 respectively. The site allows users to read the first chapters of manga for free to help make an informed decision.

Like BookWalker, this site is also from Kadokawa. It has a large collection of manga available to users in Japanese and English.
My favourite part is that the site is completely free and has new collections added every week! There is no registration fee either.
The site includes works serialized in Kadokawa’s manga magazines and WEB media.
E- Manga

E- manga was established in 2008 as Digital Manga Inc.’s one stop online manga store.
